FATHER’S DAY CRAFT PROJECT:
MiniMatte Sun Catcher project by Angela Kendall

Recently moving back to my hometown, I noticed my Dad had made sun catchers from panes of glass and paint. My Mom is currently in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s and I was trying to think of a way for my Dad to remember her as the vibrant person she once was. I thought combining the sun catcher idea with Craftique’s MiniMattes would be the perfect opportunity to give him a gift from the heart.

Materials needed:

• Craftique Products-MiniMattes; (2) 5” same shape cut-out, (2) 4” same shape cut-out & (2) 3” same shape cut- out. Mix or match colors.
• Craft Knife or Cutting tool
• Clear Transparency Paper or Frosted Vellum for Color Printers
• Any Computer with photo editing software, (ie. Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, MS Word, MS Publisher)
• Digital Photos from photo CD or Scanned Photo Images, (ie. JPEG Photos)
• Metallic Thread

1. Choose photos you want to use as the “sun catcher” portion of the project, filling the shapes cut out of MiniMattes.
2. Trace inside of MiniMattes on plain paper to make template for cutting photos to correct size.
3. Resize the photos you’ve chosen to fit the 5”, 4’ and 3” MiniMatte with the cut-out of your choice and print out on the transparency in color or black and white on your printer.
4. Using your traced templates, cut out your photo approx. 1/4” larger than the template to fit the MiniMattes.
5. Peel the release paper from the back of one set of MiniMattes lay face down on flat surface.
6. Place cut-out transparency photos centered on respective sized MiniMatte. Press to adhere.
7. Cut three pieces of metallic thread to hang and tie MiniMattes together from one to another.
8. Place one piece of thread centered on adhesive side MiniMatte that will be the top, place thread centered from the bottom of the first MiniMatte to the top of the 2nd MiniMatte, and place a piece of thread from the bottom of the 2nd MiniMatte to the top of the 3rd MiniMatte.

Once you have your photos and threads centered and adhered to the adhesive side of one set of MiniMattes, peel backing paper from the 2nd set of MiniMattes and center and press to adhere them adhesive to adhesive on the corresponding size and shape of MiniMatte on the flat surface. This sandwiches your photos and your hanging thread between the MiniMattes to make the sun catcher.

9.
Tie a loop for hanging at the top of the sun catcher. and display.

A FAMILIAR FACE: Savage Employees Barb Engel & Joanne Brown
Barbara Engel, a Savage Customer Service staple of 20 years, moved to Arizona in August of 1986 from Pittsburgh, PA. Barb has enjoyed working with the Savage customers for years, as well as going to photo shows and meeting customers one on one. “Putting faces with the voices” she spoke with often on the phone. Barb has also enjoyed working with great co-workers.

As a Savage Customer Service Representative, Barb inputs orders received by phone, mail and fax. Taking care of customers, filing and helping others also fill her day at Savage.

Set to retire in just a few months, Barb will be returning to Pittsburgh to spend more time with her husband Bill of 44 years, her four children and 10 grandchildren.

Joanne Brown, originally from Ohio, has worked at Savage for 23 years. Joanne says her favorite aspect of the job is “the long time relationship with a lot of our regular customers”.

Joanne’s customer service responsibilities include processing purchase orders, communicating with customers in tracking their orders and billing shipped orders.

When Joanne is not working at Savage she is spending time with her husband of 21 years Mike Brown and their three animals, Sophie, Boris & Oreo who are just like children in their family.
